Fitness for Life
6 Components of Fitness
Nutrition
Sufficient nutrition is absolutely necessary to get the most out of your workout. The rate of metabolism increases when you exercise. The increase in metabolism causes a depletion in your body’s energy level, and it must be replaced by proper nutrition.
Cardiovascular Exercise
When you exercise regularly, you can increase your cardiovascular fitness as your heart becomes more efficient at pumping blood and oxygen to the body. The body then becomes more efficient at using that oxygen.
Strength Training
This type of activity provides additional benefits not found with aerobic activity. It helps you raise your metabolism. Since muscle burns more calories than fat, the more muscle you have, the more calories you’ll burn all day long.
- Strengthen bones, especially important for women
- Makes you stronger and increases muscular endurance
- Helps you avoid injuries
- Increase your confidence and self-esteem
- Improves coordination and balance
Core strength
It involves all muscles and tissues below your chest and down to your upper thighs. Your core includes your buttocks, pelvic floor, back, and all of the deep small muscles that support your spine. When you move your body, your core stabilizes its position to prevent misalignment or overstretching. A stable core prevents injuries to your back, hips, and shoulders. It also prevents joint and muscles diseases and ailments, such as arthritis, bursitis, spondylosis, joint strains and sprains.
Mobility and Flexibility
Mobility is the ability of a joint to move actively and freely throughout its full range of motion. Flexibility is the ability of a muscle or muscle groups to lengthen passively through a range of motion. Both are an important part of maintaining function to support different activities daily.
Consistency and Program Design
Being consistent plays a large role in not only accomplishing your goals but in progressively improving your body’s overall health and wellness. Program design is an essential part in having structure and accountability to work out in a safe and effective manner.
Nutrition
Precision Nutrition
Precision provides you with the most reliable source of evidenced-based nutrition information. Registered Dietitians are required to hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and pass a national dietetic registration examination, therefore advising and guiding your dietary needs in a healthy way.

Our Satisfied Clients
Tammy and I have been using the HVCC Fitness Center for several years and have really enjoyed the convenience, the variety of equipment and the personal training assistance provided by Brittney Arner. Brittney, has been incredible over these past several years, helping us with our stretching, strength training, balance, agility and cardio health. We have both noticed a significant difference on our ability to workout and do our day to day chores as a direct result of these training sessions. She has even been able to assist with specific needs associated with PT, accelerating our recovery from back and joint pain. We workout at least 2 days per week and truly value the fact the HVCC has this type of training support available as part of our club membership.

A year ago, nearing my 60th birthday, I was overweight, very unfit, recovering from knee replacement surgery and basically a slug. I had lost my active lifestyle that was integral to my happiness. Then I began working with you. You showed me how to strengthen my body appropriately. Your consistency, encouragement, and well thought out training plan helped me totally transform. I’ve lost 60 pounds and am stronger than I’ve been in decades. This week I hiked the trail to the top of McAfee Knob and back – over 8 miles and 4 hours of strenuous effort. I could not have done that without you. Thanks for helping me get my happiness back!
